LAGOS, Nigeria – The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has destroyed 329,865.585 kilogrammes of assorted illicit drugs valued at approximately N301.058 billion in Lagos, following orders of the Federal High Court.
NDLEA spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, said on Monday that the destroyed drugs included seizures made by the agency’s Lagos Strategic Command between April 2025 and May 2026, as well as recoveries by the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Tin Can, Apapa, Marine and Special Operations Commands.
The illicit substances destroyed included cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine, skunk, Canadian Loud, ephedrine, tramadol, codeine syrup, other opioids and khat leaves.
NDLEA Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa (retd.), described the exercise as a strong demonstration of Nigeria’s determination to disrupt drug trafficking networks and protect public health.
He warned that illicit drugs continue to threaten young people, families and communities while fuelling organised crime, terrorism and violent extremism.
Marwa thanked President Bola Tinubu, the judiciary, Lagos State Government, security agencies, international partners, civil society organisations and the public for supporting the agency’s anti-drug campaign.
Representing Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Secretary to the Lagos State Government, Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin, described the destruction of nearly 330 tonnes of narcotics as a reminder of the scale of Nigeria’s drug problem and reaffirmed Lagos State’s commitment to tackling drug abuse.
The Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Adewale Adeniyi, said the exercise sends a strong warning to traffickers and weakens the financial base of criminal organisations.
The Chief of Naval Staff, represented by Rear Admiral Abdullahi Mustapha, also pledged continued collaboration with the NDLEA in combating illicit drug trafficking.
