ABUJA, Nigeria – Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested two Brazil returnees, a businesswoman, and several others in a series of operations that also led to the interception of large consignments of illicit drugs across the country.
Spokesperson Femi Babafemi said on Sunday that 46-year-old Ofoma Sunday was caught at Lagos’ Murtala Muhammed International Airport after arriving from Brazil via Ethiopian Airlines. He excreted 111 heroin wraps weighing 1.452kg.
Another returnee, Ukachukwu Frank Ikechukwu, expelled cocaine pellets after arrest.
Investigations led to 55-year-old Nweke Jude Chuckwudi, a suspected hotel receiver.
Separately, Lagos-based businesswoman Okolonkwo Ebere Theresa attempted to board a Qatar Airways flight with 1.40kg of meth hidden in underwear. She confessed to posing as a clothing trader.
In Adamawa, 233,800 tramadol pills were seized. In Zamfara, a truckload of cannabis was intercepted, while Edo State operatives destroyed four hectares of cannabis farms. More seizures were recorded in Yobe and Taraba.
NDLEA Chairman Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa said, “These arrests warn traffickers that no criminal network is beyond our reach.”
The NDLEA also expanded its War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) campaign in Sokoto, Katsina, Jigawa, Benue, and Kano, alongside advocacy visits to Enugu’s First Lady, Nkechinyere Mbah.
