LOKOJA, Nigeria – The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has renewed its call on the Federal Government to reinstate five doctors dismissed by the Federal Teaching Hospital, Lokoja, Kogi State.
NARD President, Dr Muhammed Suleiman told journalists on Tuesday that the sacked doctors had been out of work for more than a year, despite repeated appeals. “Today marks the 18th day of our 30-day ultimatum to the Federal Government. Enough is enough,” he said.
He warned that Nigeria’s health system is overstretched, with one doctor serving more than 9,000 citizens — far from the World Health Organisation’s recommended ratio of one to 600.
“We need the sacked doctors back to ease workloads. The government must act to stop brain drain,” Suleiman said, stressing that unpaid salary arrears, promotion delays, and entitlement issues have worsened morale.
NARD reaffirmed readiness to dialogue but insisted that reinstating the affected doctors is key to averting another nationwide strike.
