ABUJA, Nigeria – The Nigerian Association of Medical and Dental Academics (NAMDA) has dismissed reports that its members are on strike, reaffirming its independence and commitment to protecting members’ welfare.
In a statement jointly signed by President Dr Nosa Lancy-Orhue, Secretary-General Dr Abdulrahman Shehu, and National Liaison Officer Dr Muhammad Askira, on Wednesday, the union clarified that it remains “an independent body with the capacity to negotiate its interests and uphold mutual respect.”
“NAMDA is not on strike and will not be blackmailed or coaxed away from its members’ interests,” the statement read.
The association, representing medical lecturers in universities and research institutions, urged government recognition of the Consolidated Medical Workers Salary Structure (CONMESS) and the withdrawal of the compulsory PhD requirement for promotion eligibility.
“The conditions of service for medical and dental lecturers can only be negotiated by medical academics under NAMDA,” the union stated.
It called for constructive dialogue to address long-standing grievances without disrupting academic and healthcare activities.
