NAFDAC officials inspecting seized unregistered herbal medicines at Kaduna’s Kawo Market
KADUNA, Nigeria – The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has raided the popular Kawo Market in Kaduna State, confiscating large quantities of unregistered herbal medicines and arresting three suspects.
The North-West zonal operation, carried out on Wednesday, forms part of NAFDAC’s ongoing crackdown on counterfeit and unapproved products circulating in Nigerian markets.
In a statement, the agency said the exercise demonstrates its renewed resolve to protect public health and uphold regulatory standards.
“The operation underscores our commitment to safeguarding the health of Nigerians by removing substandard and unregistered products from circulation,” NAFDAC stated.
Officials said the suspects are currently assisting investigations, while the confiscated items will undergo laboratory analysis before further legal action.
The agency warned that its enforcement teams would sustain surveillance across markets, warehouses, and distribution channels nationwide.
“We urge members of the public to remain vigilant and report the sale or distribution of unregistered products to the nearest NAFDAC office,” the statement added.
