YENAGOA, Nigeria – A National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member who was declared missing in Bayelsa State has been found dead, days after police launched a search operation to trace his whereabouts.
The deceased, Okebaram Stanley Chimaroke, a 27-year-old Civil Engineering graduate and former Students’ Union Government President of Federal Polytechnic Nekede, was reportedly found in a body of water in Nembe Local Government Area on Tuesday after he was allegedly attacked by unidentified assailants. Authorities have yet to officially confirm the circumstances surrounding his death.
The Bayelsa State Police Command had earlier commenced a search after fellow corps member Aribisola Bisi Isaac, accompanied by Adeola Marvelous, reported Chimaroke missing on 25 July 2026. Police said the corps member, who was serving in Nembe Creek, was last seen at about 8 p.m. on 24 July, while repeated attempts to reach him on his mobile phone proved unsuccessful.
In a statement on Tuesday by the police, operatives were deployed to the creek community, about 45 minutes by boat from the Nembe Divisional Headquarters, to begin a search and investigation. At the time of filing this report, the police had not officially confirmed the recovery of Chimaroke’s body or disclosed the exact cause of death, while investigations into the incident continue.
