ABUJA, Nigeria – The Nigeria Governors’ Forum has called for swift justice following deadly suicide bombings in Maiduguri that killed at least 23 people and injured more than 100.
The coordinated attacks struck crowded civilian locations, including markets and public areas, during Ramadan as residents gathered to break their fast.
NGF Chairman and Kwara State Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq condemns the violence, describing it as a “heinous assault on innocent lives.”
“We are deeply shocked and heartbroken by the terrorist attacks… Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families,” he says.
In a statement issued by spokesman Yunusa Abdullahi,on Thursday the forum urges security agencies to intensify operations to track down perpetrators and prevent further attacks.
The governors stress the need for stronger collaboration between federal and state authorities to combat insurgency nationwide.
They also commend the response of emergency services and security forces, noting that rapid intervention helped limit casualties.
Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum is praised for his leadership amid ongoing security challenges.
The NGF reaffirms solidarity with the people of Borno, pledging continued support in the fight against terrorism.
