Lagos, Nigeria – The Lagos Waste Management Authority intensifies waste management operations ahead of Easter, warning residents against indiscriminate dumping that could trigger flooding and environmental hazards.
The agency on Friday says it has scaled up waste evacuation across Lagos to manage the anticipated surge in refuse during the festive period, deploying additional personnel and equipment to high-traffic areas including markets and motor parks.
Managing Director Muyiwa Gbadegesin says proactive measures are in place to ensure efficient service delivery and maintain environmental cleanliness.
“Festive seasons typically witness increased waste generation, making it necessary for both service providers and residents to play their respective roles,” he states.
LAWMA confirms strengthened collaboration with Private Sector Participants to guarantee consistent domestic waste collection across the state.
Gbadegesin issues a strong warning against dumping refuse in drainage channels and public spaces, noting that such practices heighten flood risks as the rainy season approaches.
“Maintaining a clean environment is a shared responsibility requiring cooperation between government, service providers, and residents,” he adds.
Environmental experts warn that blocked drainage systems remain a leading cause of urban flooding in Lagos, particularly during heavy rains.
Residents are urged to use approved waste channels and report sanitation issues through official platforms for prompt response. LAWMA Warns Lagos Residents Against Dumping Ahead of Easter
