LAGOS, Nigeria – Residents and businesses in Apapa-Iganmu must now present proof of payment to their assigned waste operators as Lagos intensifies efforts to curb illegal dumping.
The Lagos Waste Management Authority announces the compliance operation, tagged Show Your PSP Payment Receipt, in a statement released Monday.
Managing Director Muyiwa Gbadegesin says the exercise targets indiscriminate waste disposal and properties operating outside approved waste collection arrangements.
“The initiative verifies property-level compliance with PSP payment obligations,” the statement says. “It addresses the root causes of illegal dumping.”
According to LAWMA, compliance officers will conduct routine checks across residential and commercial premises, requiring occupants to show evidence of registration and payment to Private Sector Participant operators.
Gbadegesin says the move will help close service gaps that lead to blackspots and environmental hazards.
“Properties without valid PSP arrangements contribute significantly to illegal dumping,” he says.
LAWMA urges residents and business owners to regularise their payments and maintain proper waste storage ahead of the enforcement drive.
The authority says the exercise forms part of a broader strategy to improve sanitation and environmental health in densely populated commercial corridors.
