OGBOMOSO, Nigeria – The management of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology mourns six final-year nursing students killed in a fatal road crash on the Ilorin–Ogbomoso Road.
In a Wednesday statement signed by the registrar, the university confirms that the students travel from Suleja to campus for final examinations when the commercial bus they board crashes at Otte, Kwara State.
“With a heavy heart, we announce the tragic loss of six of our cherished students,” the statement reads.
The victims—Shehu Nana Firdawsi Hamza, Idris Jamila, Abdulraheem Maimunah Hamza, Blessing Kevwe, Owoicho Elizabeth and Aroke Ozavize Victoria—are enrolled in the Open and Distance Learning Nursing programme. University officials describe the incident as a monumental loss, noting that the students embody resilience and hope.
The institution extends condolences to bereaved families and calls for prayers as the academic community grapples with grief.
“We stand in solidarity with the families during this immeasurable loss,” the statement adds.
The crash marks the second fatal accident involving final-year students in Kwara State within a month, raising renewed concerns about road safety for students travelling long distances for examinations.
