LAGOS, Nigeria – Authorities in Coker Aguda Local Council Development Area impose an indefinite restriction on tricycle operations, citing intelligence linking recent violent crimes to their use.
In a statement issued on Friday in Aguda, Surulere, the council says security reports indicate that some recent killings in the area are perpetrated using tricycles, prompting urgent action to protect residents.
The council states that the restriction takes immediate effect and aligns with wider security policies of the Lagos State Government, including existing bans on commercial motorcycles in parts of the state.
“This measure is necessary to reinforce security and restore public order,” the statement reads, stressing that public safety outweighs commercial considerations.
Security agencies receive directives to intensify patrols and surveillance, particularly around the Orile axis and other flashpoints. The Executive Chairman urges residents to remain calm while enforcement continues.
The council reiterates its commitment to protecting lives and property, pledging sustained collaboration with law enforcement agencies to prevent further breakdown of law and order.
