LAGOS, Nigeria – The Lagos State Internal Revenue Service extends the deadline for individual annual income tax returns to April 21, 2026, following a surge in last-minute filings that strains its electronic platform.
Executive Chairman Ayodele Subair on Saturday says the extension responds to high compliance levels rather than system failure.
“The extension enhances convenience while ensuring accuracy and integrity of submissions,” he says.
The tax authority had earlier shifted the deadline to April 14 but revised it again as pressure mounts on its eTax platform.
Head of Corporate Communications Monsurat Amasa-Oyelude reiterates that this is the final extension, stressing that all filings must be completed exclusively through the digital portal.
Taxpayers experiencing difficulties are advised to visit LIRS offices or contact official support channels.
The development underscores growing pressure on Nigeria’s digital tax infrastructure as authorities accelerate the shift to fully electronic compliance.
