LAGOS, Nigeria – The Lagos State AIDS Control Agency (LSACA) records one of its strongest public turnouts in recent years as hundreds seize the opportunity for free HIV testing and counselling at the 2025 Lagos International Trade Fair.
The agency concludes its outreach at Tafawa Balewa Square with what officials describe as “a clear sign that awareness is rising and stigma is slowly declining.”
LSACA Chief Executive Officer, Dr Folakemi Animashaun, says the fair remains a powerful platform for reaching varied demographics in a single location. “The Lagos International Trade Fair continues to offer a valuable avenue to reach large numbers of people with essential HIV services,” she notes. “More people are taking responsibility for their health, and that matters for epidemic control.”
Visitors accessed free HIV testing, counselling, condoms and information materials targeted at deepening prevention across communities.
Dr Animashaun emphasises that early detection remains central to interrupting transmission chains. “Our presence here reinforces our commitment to taking HIV services to the grassroots. We will intensify community awareness to ensure no one is left behind.”
She praises volunteers and partners for delivering what beneficiaries describe as a seamless, stigma-free experience. Many participants say the initiative brought services closer to them at a time when economic challenges make preventive healthcare harder to access.
LSACA urges Lagos residents to continue using free HIV testing available at Primary Health Centres statewide.
