LAGOS, Nigeria – Health services across Lagos State resume after the Lagos State chapter of the Joint Health Sector Unions, (JOHESU) suspend their strike following decisive intervention by the Lagos State House of Assembly.
The union made the announcement in a statement on Sunday after consultations with labour leaders and assurances from lawmakers that workers’ demands will be addressed.
“The leadership of the Joint Health Sector Unions, after wide consultations with stakeholders and based on assurances given by the Lagos State House of Assembly, resolves to suspend the ongoing strike,” says state secretary Kabiawu Gbolahan in a statement.
The union directs members to return to work immediately across public health facilities, stressing that no worker should face sanctions for participating in the industrial action.
Confirming the development, the Lagos State Government says both parties reach an understanding after a high-level meeting to resolve the dispute.
“The Lagos State Government and the Joint Health Sector Unions have reached an agreement leading to the immediate suspension of the strike,” the government says, noting that timelines are set to resolve outstanding issues within existing regulations.
