ILORIN, Nigeria – The Kwara State Polytechnic announces reopening on Monday, March 2, 2026, following a temporary closure due to student protests over the use of campus facilities as a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) orientation camp.
Acting Registrar Halimat Garba confirms that government approval allows resumption of normal academic and administrative activities. “All staff and students are urged to adhere to the directive and resume promptly,” the statement reads.
The closure, enforced on January 19 by Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, followed protests after corps members were accommodated while academic activities were ongoing. Tensions escalated, with security operatives dispersing students and several injuries reported, including the Chief Security Officer.
The Students’ Union Government and opposition parties criticised the handling of the protests, citing concerns over safety, welfare, and academic disruption. Management expresses appreciation for cooperation during the closure and looks forward to a productive completion of the 2025/2026 first semester.
