ABUJA, Nigeria – Prison officers at Abuja’s Kuje Correctional Facility have foiled an attempt to smuggle cannabis and other substances into the high-security prison.
The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) said the suspect, Njimogu Ikedi, was caught during a routine search around 12:45 p.m. on Saturday with drugs hidden in his clothing.
Controller of Corrections Christopher Jen ordered his detention and transfer to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency for investigation and prosecution.
“Visitors with ulterior motives should know our officers remain vigilant. We will prevent every attempt to compromise prison security,” Jen warned.
The NCoS urged public support for its wider rehabilitation programmes. Officials confirmed this was the latest in several smuggling attempts. Last year, a woman was caught trying to pass narcotics hidden in food parcels to inmates.
The service reaffirmed its commitment to keeping prisons secure and free from criminal infiltration.
