KEBBI, Nigeria – An early morning explosion rocks the General Hospital in Bagudo, Bagudo Local Government Area of Kebbi State, prompting swift security intervention, the police confirm.
In a statement issued in Birnin Kebbi on Tuesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman, says the loud blast occurred in the early hours of December 30, 2025, but records no loss of life. “Security agencies have brought the situation under control,” Usman says.
He explains that a joint security team comprising the police, military and vigilante personnel immediately cordons off the area, while experts from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal–Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) unit conduct a detailed assessment.
Usman says the explosion damages a building within the hospital’s staff quarters but confirms that all occupants evacuate safely before the incident. “No casualty is recorded. However, one building in the staff quarters sustains damage,” he adds.
Following the incident, the Commissioner of Police ordered additional tactical deployments to reinforce security and maintain public order in Bagudo and surrounding areas.
Usman says a comprehensive investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of the explosion and urges residents to remain calm.
“We advise members of the public to avoid the immediate vicinity to allow security and investigative operations to continue,” he says.
The police assure residents that updates will be provided as investigations progress, while hospital services remain under close security watch.
