KATSINA, Nigeria – Security forces foil a bandit attack on Gidan Soda village in Dandume Local Government Area of Katsina State, killing two suspected bandits during a joint operation, police say.
The Katsina State Police Command says the attack occurs around 12:45 a.m. after armed assailants begin shooting sporadically in the community.
Police spokesperson DSP Aliyu Abubakar confirms that one resident, Hassana Muhammad, is fatally shot before security operatives arrive.
“The Divisional Police Officer immediately mobilised operatives, working alongside the military and the Katsina State Community Watch Corps,” Abubakar says.
Security forces engage the attackers in a gun battle, overpowering them and forcing the remaining suspects to flee into surrounding bushes.
During a follow-up sweep of the area, operatives recover the bodies of two suspected bandits and a Boxer motorcycle believed to belong to the attackers.
Police say efforts are ongoing to track and arrest the fleeing suspects, while investigations continue.
The Commissioner of Police, Bello Shehu, commends the swift response of the joint security team and reaffirms the Command’s commitment to inter-agency collaboration.
“We will not relent in our determination to protect lives and property across Katsina State,” he says.
North-western Nigeria has witnessed persistent bandit attacks in recent years, with security agencies intensifying joint operations to disrupt criminal networks and restore safety in rural communities.
