KATSINA, Nigeria – Katsina State Governor Dikko Umaru Radda flags off a free medical circumcision programme in Danja Local Government Area, describing it as a strategic investment in preventive healthcare and child wellbeing.
The exercise is launched at the Comprehensive Health Centre, Danja, according to a statement issued Saturday by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Ibrahim Kaula Mohammed.
Radda commends the Executive Chairman of Danja Local Government, Rabo Tambaya, for initiating what he calls a people-focused intervention that eases the financial burden on families. “This programme shows how governance can directly improve lives at the grassroots,” the governor says.
He stresses that conducting circumcision in clinical settings under trained professionals ensures hygiene, safety and proper post-procedure care. “Medical circumcision significantly reduces the risk of infection and complications associated with unregulated traditional practices,” Radda adds.
Earlier, Chairman of the Advisory Committee to the Executive Chairman and Chiroman Danja, Dr Lawal Aminu Danja, says the programme targets 100 children from Jiba, Tandama and Danja wards. “Our goal is to protect child health and bring quality medical services closer to the people,” he says.
Dr Danja explains that the programme is fully funded by the local government and has become an annual initiative, aligned with Katsina State’s broader health reforms.
Health workers involved are praised for professionalism, as the state government pledges continued support for grassroots healthcare delivery.
