KANO, Nigeria – The Kano State Government launches a public health intervention in Durmawa community, Bebeji Local Government Area, following reports of suspected whooping cough cases.
The operation, led by the Kano State Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (KNCDC), includes community sensitisation and free distribution of essential medications.
The Director-General of KNCDC, Prof. Muhammad Adamu Abbas, says the outreach forms part of the state’s rapid response strategy to contain infectious disease threats.
“We deployed our team immediately after receiving reports of suspected whooping cough. Early detection and prompt treatment are critical,” Abbas says.
He urges parents and caregivers to seek medical attention promptly whenever symptoms appear, warning that delays increase health risks and transmission.
Residents receive guidance on disease prevention and are advised to use the free medications strictly as directed to achieve the desired public health outcomes.
Abbas assures that surveillance and emergency response systems remain active across the state, enabling swift intervention wherever suspected outbreaks occur.
“Our teams are on standby to respond to any public health threat. Protecting lives remains our top priority,” he adds.
The Kano State Government reiterates its commitment to proactive disease prevention through community engagement, early reporting and strengthened healthcare response mechanisms.
