Kano Records 13 Months Without Polio Ahead Campaign

KANO, Nigeria – Kano State records 13 consecutive months without poliovirus, marking a major public health milestone ahead of its 2026 immunisation drive.

Health Commissioner Abubakar Labaran Yusuf announced the achievement at a state health meeting.

“This is a significant milestone and a testament to collective efforts,” he says.

The state prepares for a new vaccination round starting March 28, with support from World Health Organization and UNICEF.

Traditional ruler Muhammadu Sanusi II urges grassroots mobilisation to ensure full participation.

“All district heads must step up efforts to vaccinate every child,” he says.

Officials credit strong partnerships and reforms in primary healthcare for the успех.
