KANO, Nigeria – The Kano State Police Command says it has dismantled an interstate car theft syndicate and recovered three suspected stolen vehicles during intelligence-led operations across Kano State.
Police authorities disclosed on Sunday that operatives attached to the Command’s Special Intervention Squad arrested three suspects linked to the theft and illegal sale of vehicles transported across state borders.
The suspects were identified as Abel Nanlir Nafa, 38, from Abuja; Stephen Wanneh, 47, from Kaduna State; and Habiba Mohammad, 35, from Kano State.
According to police investigations, a black Toyota Camry 2015 model stolen in Enugu State was transferred to members of the syndicate for resale.
“During investigation, the first suspect confessed that a suspect now at large stole the vehicle from Enugu and handed it over to him for sale,” police spokesperson Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa said.
Authorities revealed that the syndicate allegedly attempted to sell the vehicle to a buyer in the Niger Republic for ₦1.5 million.
The command further disclosed that officers later raided the residence of another suspect, Haruna Ibrahim, in Darmanawa Layout, Kano, where two additional suspected stolen vehicles were recovered.
The vehicles included a red Hyundai Sonata and an ash-coloured Hyundai Elantra allegedly linked to earlier theft cases.
Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, praised the operatives for the successful operation, describing it as evidence of effective intelligence-led policing and inter-agency collaboration.
Police authorities urged residents to remain vigilant and continue providing credible information to support ongoing anti-crime operations.
