KANO, Nigeria – The Kano State Police Command has arrested five suspected fake police officers during a targeted intelligence operation.
Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna in a statement on Saturday said the suspects were nabbed by the Special Intervention Squad on Thursday, October 16, 2025.
“The suspects were caught parading themselves as officers and using fake police IDs to extort unsuspecting citizens,” Haruna revealed.
The arrested individuals — Aliyu Abbas (35), Sani Iliyasu (47), Ashiru Sule (41), Abubakar Yahaya (45), and Adamu Kalilu (45) — were found with counterfeit police warrant cards, handcuffs, mutilated currency, and a Peugeot 406 used for their illegal activities.
During interrogation, the men confessed to impersonating police officers to carry out extortion in Kano, Katsina, and Kaduna.
“The Command remains committed to safeguarding residents and will ensure the suspects face prosecution,” Haruna assured.
He urged citizens to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious individuals or activities.
