KANO, Nigeria – The Kano State Primary Health Care Management Board takes disciplinary action against the management and staff of Burji Primary Health Centre in Madobi Local Government Area following lapses uncovered during an unscheduled inspection.
The action follows a surprise supervisory visit by the board’s Director General, Prof. Salisu Ahmad Ibrahim, as part of routine monitoring of primary healthcare facilities across the state.
The development is disclosed in a statement issued on Tuesday and signed by the board’s Public Relations Officer, Sa’adatu Suleiman.
According to the statement, the Head of Department and other relevant staff of Burji PHC are invited to the board’s headquarters for an administrative review after shortcomings are observed during the visit.
“At the conclusion of the engagement with the Director General, key administrative decisions were taken in response to the lapses observed,” the statement says.
As part of the measures, the officer in charge of the facility is relieved of duty, while staff responsible for antenatal services are also dropped.
The board further approves the posting of all staff at the facility to allow for what it describes as a comprehensive reset of operations and management.
Ibrahim reiterates the board’s zero-tolerance policy for negligence, absenteeism and poor service delivery. “Public health facilities must always meet expected standards of accountability and quality service delivery,” he states.
The board assures residents that steps are underway to restore effective healthcare services at Burji PHC, adding that similar monitoring exercises will continue across Kano State to strengthen primary healthcare delivery.
