ZARIA, Nigeria – Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, announces a ₦50 million donation to support the establishment of a Technology Innovation Hub at Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, underscoring his administration’s commitment to education and youth empowerment.
The donation was unveiled on Saturday during ABU’s 45th Convocation Ceremony at Mamman Kontagora Square, according to a statement released by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.
The innovation hub is implemented through a partnership between the Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala (NOI) Foundation and AMA Pharmaceuticals Limited, with a focus on research, skills acquisition and entrepreneurship.
“This initiative reflects our deliberate policy of investing in education, innovation and human capital development,” Governor Yusuf says. “It aligns with our people-centred agenda that prioritises youths and women.”
The announcement coincides with the conferment of an Honorary Doctor of Science degree on former Finance Minister and WTO Director-General, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, in recognition of her global contributions to development.
Governor Yusuf notes that Kano State currently has about 6,000 indigent students studying at ABU, adding that the innovation hub will expand opportunities for skills training and socio-economic inclusion.
