KANO, Nigeria — Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has accused the state Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, of sabotaging the 2025 Independence Day celebration and called for his removal.
In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, Yusuf condemned Bakori’s order withdrawing police participation from the October 1 parade at Sani Abacha Stadium, describing the decision as “unpatriotic and disgraceful.”
“As Chief Security Officer of Kano, we cannot tolerate sabotage to our peace and wellbeing. It is unacceptable for a Commissioner of Police to boycott a national event that symbolises unity and democracy,” Yusuf said.
The governor alleged that Bakori was acting in line with partisan interests and urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to direct the Inspector General of Police to replace him with a non-partisan officer.
He praised other agencies — including the DSS, Customs, Immigration, Fire Service, and Correctional Service — for their participation.
