Newly constructed toilet facilities at Goron Dutse Custodial Centre
KANO, Nigeria – The Kano State Government completes the construction of 15 toilet facilities and renovates the kitchen at the Goron Dutse Custodial Centre, aiming to improve inmate welfare and public health standards.
The intervention follows engagements between the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) and key stakeholders, with approval from Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
In a statement on Saturday, the Kano NCoS Public Relations Officer, CSC Musbahu Lawan-Kofarnasarawa, says the project reflects the administration’s focus on humane correctional conditions.
Commissioner for Rural Development, Dr Abdulkadir Abdussalam, describes sanitation and hygiene as critical to inmate health and effective corrections.
“Access to proper sanitation and hygienic kitchen facilities safeguards inmates’ wellbeing and strengthens correctional administration,” Abdussalam says.
He pledges continued collaboration between the state government and the NCoS to enhance custodial infrastructure across Kano.
Controller of Corrections, Yusuf Ahmed-Lakpene, commends the government’s sustained support, noting that improved facilities aid rehabilitation and reintegration.
“Correctional reform requires collective responsibility,” Ahmed-Lakpene says, urging other stakeholders to support similar initiatives.
The commissioning event draws senior officials, including the Commissioner for Internal Security, AVM Ibrahim Umar (rtd.), and the Director-General of Special Services, Maj.-Gen. Sani Mohammed (rtd.).
