Kano state Commissioner of Education, Dr. Ali Haruna Makoda
KANO, Nigeria – The Kano State Government has announced a new initiative to strengthen girls’ education through equitable funding, inclusive policies, and targeted community support.
In a statement issued on Friday, the Director of Public Enlightenment at the Ministry of Education, Balarabe Abdullahi Kiru, said the plan was unveiled by the Commissioner for Education, Dr. Ali Haruna Makoda, during the two-day Kano Girls’ Education Summit 2025.
At the summit, themed “Investing in Her Future – Advancing Girls’ Education Through Equitable Budgeting,” Dr. Makoda said the initiative reflects Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s administration’s commitment to making education accessible to every child, particularly girls.
“As education remains the key priority of this administration, we are committed to implementing more programmes that ensure every girl in Kano has access to quality education,” he said.
The commissioner disclosed that 29.79 per cent of the 2024 budget and 31.5 per cent of the 2025 budget have been allocated to the education sector, with a dedicated focus on girls’ education.
He added that the government had repaired over 70 girl-child shuttle buses, reviewed the Girl-Child Policy, and introduced conditional cash transfers to support girls from low-income families.
