Kano Governor, Abba Yusuf
KANO, Nigeria – The Kano State Government has deployed 1,600 newly recruited watchmen to public secondary schools in a major push to strengthen campus security and restore discipline across the state’s education system.
The announcement was made in a statement issued on Tuesday by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, who said the personnel had received permanent and pensionable appointments.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf said, “The safety of our students, teachers and facilities is a top priority of this administration,” he said.
The watchmen will serve as frontline security personnel, monitoring suspicious movements, preventing unauthorised access and supporting the smooth operation of daily academic activities. “No learning environment can function effectively where security is weak,” the governor noted.
The statement commended the Ministry of Education and the Kano State Senior Secondary Schools Management Board for their role in executing the government’s directives and supporting broader reforms.
The deployment forms part of ongoing measures to improve the learning environment, curb indiscipline and ensure that public schools operate in a secure, orderly and conducive atmosphere.
Governor Yusuf urged the new watchmen to demonstrate “vigilance, discipline and integrity” as they assume duty across the state.
