KANO, Nigeria – Makoda Local Government Council in Kano State has approved ₦2.5 million to buy and distribute medicines to children affected by fever and persistent cough in several communities.
The council’s Information Officer, Zainab Muhammad, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday. She said the intervention followed complaints from residents about children’s health problems.
According to the statement, council chairman Mallam Auwal Jibga approved the funds to improve access to essential medicines for affected children.
The distribution has begun in Babbar Ruga and Maitsidau communities under the supervision of council secretary Bala Maitsidau. The team is expected to visit other affected communities.
Jibga urged health personnel handling the medicines to ensure transparency and accountability throughout the exercise.
The Head of the Local Government Health Department, Mas’ud Zayyan, also advised parents, beneficiaries and health workers to ensure the medicines are administered according to medical guidelines.
However, the council did not disclose the number of children affected, the types or quantities of medicines purchased, or whether medical assessments had established the causes of the reported symptoms.
Fever and persistent cough can result from various illnesses, making proper medical assessment important before treatment. The symptoms alone do not establish a specific diagnosis or confirm an outbreak.
