KANO, Nigeria – Residents of Faruruwa community in Shanono Local Government Area of Kano State have appealed to the Federal Government for urgent intervention following renewed bandit attacks allegedly launched from neighbouring Katsina State.
Chairman of the Faruruwa Security Committee, Alhaji Yahaya Bagobiri, made the appeal while briefing journalists in Kano on Thursday evening, describing the attacks as persistent and devastating.
“In the recent incidents, several residents were killed, while more than 1,600 cows were stolen alongside other valuables,” he said.
Bagobiri added that the armed assailants, often wielding sophisticated weapons, invade villages at night or even in broad daylight, leaving casualties and fear in their wake.
He disclosed that one kidnapped victim was released after paying a ₦15 million ransom, stressing that such abductions have become routine in the area.
“We are calling on President Bola Tinubu and Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to come to our aid. Many residents have already fled to Kano and other safer areas,” he lamented.
Bagobiri also urged the Kano State Government and security agencies to intensify operations and improve intelligence sharing to contain the growing threat.
“We appeal to our senators and federal lawmakers to scale up their efforts. Although progress has been made, much more is needed to restore peace,” he added.
