DUTSE, Nigeria – The Jigawa State Government suspends the principal of a girls’ boarding school after uncovering inflated student records during a follow-up inspection of the state’s reformed school feeding programme.
The Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Special Duties, Auwal Sankara, leads the inspection on Monday at the Girls Model Boarding School, Kudai, Dutse.
Officials discover discrepancies indicating a 30 per cent inflation in student numbers, prompting the principal’s immediate suspension. The vice-principal assumes acting leadership pending further action.
“This decision sends a clear signal that manipulation of records will not be tolerated,” Sankara says. “Anyone sabotaging student welfare is an enemy of progress.”
The inspection follows the suspension of fraudulent feeding contractors on January 7, after the state introduced stricter quality and accountability standards.
Sankara commends improvements in meal quality, noting that unfit food items have been replaced with nutritious meals aligned with state dietary guidelines.
School staff say the reforms restore transparency and ensure resources reach students.
The ministry urges parents and communities to report irregularities, stressing that public vigilance is essential to sustaining the reforms.
