ABUJA, Nigeria – The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), in partnership with Rite Foods Limited, will honour seven outstanding Nigerian undergraduates with a total of ₦35 million during the maiden Academic Excellence Recognition Award scheduled for June 30 in Lagos.
In a statement on Sunday by JAMB spokesperson Dr. Fabian Benjamin, the initiative seeks to reward academic excellence and encourage high performance among students admitted into Nigerian universities.
Each recipient will receive ₦5 million for exceptional performance in the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and their respective post-UTME or admission screening exercises.
According to JAMB, the awardees emerged through a transparent selection process coordinated by the examination body.
Six of the beneficiaries represent Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones, while the seventh award will go to the highest-performing candidate living with a disability.
The students are drawn from the University of Lagos, University of Uyo, Federal University of Technology Owerri, Federal University of Applied Sciences Kachia, University of Maiduguri and Federal University of Technology Minna.
Notably, the University of Lagos produced two recipients, including the awardee in the disability category.
More than 300 guests, including education stakeholders, policymakers, university administrators and private sector representatives, are expected to attend the event.
Expected dignitaries include the Minister of Education, JAMB Registrar Prof. Isa-haq Oloyede, vice-chancellors of participating universities and heads of major tertiary education regulatory agencies.
The organisers said the initiative is aimed at promoting merit, encouraging academic excellence and inspiring students to pursue higher educational achievement.
