Ile-Ife Motor Park Shooting: Osun Police Recover Second Corpse as Investigation Deepens

OSUN, Nigeria – The Osun State Police Command has recovered a second corpse following Sunday’s shooting at the Mayfair Motor Park in Ile-Ife, bringing the reported death toll from the incident to two.
The command’s spokesperson, Abiodun Ojelabi, disclosed this on Monday, saying the newly recovered corpse had been deposited at a morgue.
He also confirmed that the motor park remained closed following a directive by Governor Ademola Adeleke.
“The governor has decided that the park should not operate. The park has not been operating,” Ojelabi said.
The shooting occurred amid a reported clash involving Osun Accord chieftain, Olalekan Oyeyemi, popularly known as ‘Emir Ajagungbade’, and a group led by another NURTW leader identified as Sibi.
Oyeyemi was allegedly shot dead during the clash, reportedly linked to a dispute over plans to install him as the next chairman of the NURTW in Osun State.
The police spokesperson said the case had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.
“The Commissioner of Police has promised that all those involved will be apprehended and face the law, irrespective of who they are,” Ojelabi said.
The latest development came as the remains of Oyeyemi were buried at his newly completed residence in Agunbelewo, Osogbo.
Meanwhile, Osun State Commissioner for Transportation, Sesan Oyedele, denied claims that he summoned NURTW leaders to his residence in Modakeke to endorse Oyeyemi as the union’s next chairman.
Oyedele said the union leaders had instead approached him to seek his support for their request.
“They came around 9:00 a.m. on Sunday. I told them I would present their request to the governor and other officials,” he said.
The commissioner said he learnt of Oyeyemi’s killing about two hours after the NURTW leaders left his residence.
