Nigeria Announces 15 New ICT Experience Centres

KWARA, Nigeria – Nigeria is expanding its ICT Experience Centres programme to 15 additional tertiary institutions across the country to strengthen youth digital skills, innovation and employability.

First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu made the announcement on Tuesday while commissioning an ICT Experience Centre at Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete, Kwara State.

Represented by the wife of the Vice-President, Hajia Nana Shettima, Tinubu said construction had already begun in Adamawa, Bayelsa, Borno, Delta, Edo, Enugu, Imo, Katsina, Nasarawa, Niger, Ondo, Osun, Rivers, Yobe and Zamfara states.

“The centre we are commissioning today represents opportunity, innovation, knowledge and hope for the future of young people in Kwara State and beyond,” Tinubu said.

Executive Secretary, TETFund, Arc. Sonny Echono, represented by the Director of monitoring and Evaluation, Olajide Babatude said the facility would provide access to computer systems, relevant software, practical training and emerging technologies.

“The ICT Experience Centre is designed to equip students and lecturers with critical digital skills, to prepare them for the future,” he said.

The Vice-Chancellor of KWASU, Professor IShaykh-Luqman Jimoh described the ICT Experience Centre as an investment in innovation, research and human-capital development.
