GHANA – Travellers entering Ghana will be required to complete an online health declaration form before departure from November 12, 2026, as the country strengthens its disease surveillance and public-health preparedness measures.
The Ghana Health Service (GHS) announced the requirement in a statement issued on Saturday, November 7, and signed by its Director-General, Dr Samuel Kaba Akoriyea.
Under the directive, all passengers travelling to Ghana must complete and submit the form through the service’s electronic health declaration portal before boarding their flights. “In line with this directive, all passengers travelling to Ghana will be required to complete the Health Declaration Form before embarking on their journey to Ghana,” the statement said.
The GHS urged airlines, travel agencies and other relevant stakeholders to inform passengers about the new requirement to avoid disruptions to their travel plans. It said the measure was intended to strengthen the monitoring of potential health risks and protect residents and visitors.
The announcement comes amid the spread of the Bundibugyo strain of Ebola in parts of Africa, including the Democratic Republic of Congo, although the Ghanaian health authorities did not directly link the new declaration requirement to the outbreak.
Ghana had earlier introduced enhanced health screening at its international airports. The regional outbreak has also prompted heightened surveillance in other countries. Nigeria, for instance, reported an imported Ebola case on October 20, with health authorities identifying 62 contacts for follow-up as of November 3. The infected patient was evacuated to Switzerland for treatment.
The new Ghanaian requirement places an additional responsibility on travellers to provide health information before arrival. The GHS has urged airlines and travel agencies to communicate the directive to passengers ahead of its implementation.
