ABUJA, Nigeria – The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) is escalating efforts to curb rising crashes along the A.Y.A.–Nyanya Expressway, deploying a specialised tactical team to identify and eliminate risk factors before accidents occur.
The intervention, confirmed by Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed on Wednesday, marks a shift from reactive response to proactive road safety enforcement on one of Abuja’s busiest corridors.
Led by Assistant Corps Marshal Olusegun Ogungbemide, the team is tasked with conducting on-the-ground assessments, identifying hazards, and recommending immediate safety measures.
“The A.Y.A.–Nyanya corridor, being a major gateway into the Federal Capital Territory, requires strategic attention,” Mohammed says, stressing a “zero tolerance” stance on preventable crashes.
The road serves thousands of daily commuters entering Abuja, making it a high-risk route due to congestion, poor driving behaviour, and infrastructural strain.
FRSC says the deployment aligns with its Eid-el-Fitr special patrol, designed to ease traffic and improve safety during peak travel periods. FRSC Deploys Tactical Team to Abuja’s Deadly Nyanya Corridor
Mohammed adds that the agency is prioritising anticipatory risk management, focusing on eliminating systemic vulnerabilities rather than responding after tragedies.
He urges motorists and pedestrians to comply with traffic regulations and cooperate with officials.
The move signals increased federal attention to road safety concerns in the capital, offering cautious optimism to commuters long exposed to recurring accidents.
