Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa
LAGOS, Nigeria – The Federal Government has launched a nationwide digital learning initiative to transform classroom teaching through technology-enabled education in public schools.
Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, unveiled the Digitalisation of Public Schools Initiative and flagged off the distribution of Interactive Smart Boards during the weekend in Lagos.
The project, spearheaded by the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), seeks to expand access to quality learning tools and bridge the digital divide in basic education.
“Today’s event is more than a technological upgrade; it is a bold declaration that Nigeria is ready for the future of learning,” Dr Alausa said. “Our goal is to ensure that every child, regardless of background or location, has access to quality, modern, technology-enabled education.”
He said the initiative aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which places education at the centre of national development.
According to Alausa, the adoption of smart boards marks a shift from chalkboard teaching to interactive, multimedia-based learning. “Learners will explore, engage, and learn — not just listen,” he added.
UBEC Executive Secretary, Dr Aisha Garba, described the project as a milestone in Nigeria’s journey toward digitalising basic education.
“It demonstrates our commitment to ensuring that no child, teacher, or school is left behind in the global digital revolution,” Garba said, adding that over 1,000 smart boards and 4 million textbooks have already been distributed nationwide.
