Kano Teacher Recruitment Earns FG Backing

KANO, Nigeria — The Federal Government has praised the Kano State Government’s teacher recruitment drive, describing it as a model for education reform, while urging newly employed teachers to uphold professionalism and deliver quality education in classrooms across the state.

The Minister of Education, Dr Maruf Tunji Alausa, made the call on Tuesday during the official presentation of appointment letters to 4,900 newly recruited teachers and 3,688 Better Education Service Delivery for All (BESDA) Cohort V facilitators in Kano.

Alausa commended Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for prioritising education through sustained investments in teachers, school infrastructure and learning outcomes, noting that Kano has emerged as one of the few states making significant investments in human capital development.

Addressing the newly recruited teachers, the minister described educators as the foundation of every successful society and urged them to remain committed to nurturing the next generation of Nigerians.

“You are the most important people in our society. If we have good teachers teaching Nigerian children, we will produce very good students. Please take your time, love them, nurture them and teach them well.”

The minister highlighted Kano’s education reforms, saying the state has allocated 32 per cent of its budget to education and recruited nearly 9,000 teachers and facilitators in the latest exercise, bringing the total number of teachers employed under the current administration to about 16,000 within three years.

“In some states, no single teacher has been recruited in decades. Here in Kano, the Governor has employed 16,000 teachers in just three years. This is what human capital development looks like.

During his visit, Alausa also inspected the Tarda Smart School in Ungogo Local Government Area and the newly constructed Government Girls Secondary School in Dangwaro. He says the projects demonstrate Kano’s commitment to technology-driven learning and girls’ education, adding that they align with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
