GOMBE, Nigeria – The Federal Government vows to fully settle long-standing entitlements owed to public servants affected by the 2004–2007 reforms, with payments expected before the end of 2026.
Director-General of the Bureau of Public Service Reforms, Dasuki Arabi, gives the assurance on Monday in Gombe during an inter-agency verification exercise for disengaged Nigerian Export Promotion Council staff.
“We are verifying officers rightsized during the 2006–2007 reforms so their entitlements can be paid,” Arabi says.
He explains that thousands of affected workers wait nearly two decades due to incomplete records and delayed verification.
“For years, many were unpaid. That situation is now changing,” he adds.
Arabi says recent efforts lead to full payment of former Nigeria Immigration Service staff, crediting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for sustained support.
“We are grateful to the President for enabling the clearance of these long-outstanding obligations,” he says.
The BPSR collaborates with the Head of Service, Accountant-General, EFCC and ICPC to ensure transparency. Arabi discloses that 99.9 per cent of verified beneficiaries nationwide have now received payments.
He clarifies that the exercise is unrelated to judicial sector claims and assures Nigerians that all lawful pensions and gratuities remain a government priority.
