ABUJA, Nigeria – The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) intensifies security operations across Abuja to ensure a crime-free Christmas, targeting illegal motor parks, criminal hideouts and “one chance” syndicates.
A special task force under Operation Sweep conducts coordinated patrols and raids across key locations on Monday, as authorities step up efforts to protect lives and property during the festive season.
Speaking after supervising the exercise, Dr Peter Olumuji, Secretary of the FCTA Command and Control Centre, says the operation follows a directive from FCT Minister Nyesom Wike to eliminate criminal safe havens in the capital. “We want all miscreants to know that the FCT is now too hot for criminal activities,” Olumuji says. “There is no safe haven for criminals in Abuja anymore.”
Officials confirm the shutdown of illegal motor parks linked to abductions, demolition of makeshift settlements sheltering suspects, and removal of fake taxi operators from city roads. Several arrests have already been made, with additional security personnel deployed to identified flashpoints for round-the-clock surveillance.
Olumuji urges motor park operators and event centre managers to properly verify workers’ identities to prevent criminal infiltration.
