ABUJA, Nigeria – The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has arrested four suspected members of a car-snatching syndicate and recovered six stolen vehicles along with more than ₦15 million in cash.
Police spokesperson Josephine Adeh announced the arrests on Wednesday, crediting coordinated operations by the Gwagwalada and Mabushi Divisions with support from the Scorpion Squad.
The suspects were identified as ex-convict Dalhatu Bashiru, Nwadigo Emmanuel, Uchenna Kalu, and Alhaji Jazuli Adamu. Officers tracked Adamu to Fagge, Kano State, where he was reportedly found with ₦15,280,000, believed to be funds for purchasing additional stolen vehicles.
Recovered vehicles include a Toyota Prado, a KIA Optima, two Toyota Corolla cars, a Toyota Camry, and another black Corolla.
Adeh said preliminary findings suggest that Adamu works closely with a Nigerien accomplice, Alhaji Abdulkarim Gabeida Ibrahim, believed to coordinate the resale of stolen vehicles in the Niger Republic. Ibrahim remains at large.
Vehicle theft remains a persistent challenge in the capital, with many stolen cars transported across interstate and international routes. The FCT Command has recently intensified targeted operations using specialised units like the Scorpion Squad.
Adeh said the arrests form part of broader efforts to dismantle organised robbery rings and enhance safety across Abuja.
