ABUJA, Nigeria — The Female Architects of Nigeria (FAN) is seeking a strategic partnership with the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) to advance affordable housing initiatives, promote green building practices and strengthen research and professional development in Nigeria’s built environment.
The partnership proposal emerged on Friday when a FAN delegation, led by its Chairperson, Arc Ene Agada, paid a courtesy visit to TETFund Executive Secretary, Arc Sonny Togo Echono, in Abuja. Both organisations expressed optimism about working together to develop cost-effective housing solutions, support research into local building materials and improve capacity development for architecture professionals.
Agada said the proposed collaboration aligns with FAN’s commitment to addressing Nigeria’s housing deficit while promoting environmental sustainability and social inclusion.
“We are pleased to convey FAN’s recognition of your distinguished service through the FAN Award of Excellence, in recognition of your Outstanding Performance in the Public Service and your Unwavering Support to the Female Architects of Nigeria,” she told Echono during the visit.
She said FAN remains committed to advancing excellence in architecture by empowering women professionals and contributing practical solutions to national development.
“FAN is committed to advancing excellence in architecture and the built environment, with a special focus on empowering women professionals,” Agada said.
She identified affordable housing, climate-responsive designs, green building technologies, mentorship programmes and continuous professional development as key areas where both organisations could collaborate.
Agada also proposed immediate steps to move the partnership forward, including identifying suitable TETFund funding windows, convening a joint technical working session and developing flagship projects capable of delivering measurable benefits to communities across Nigeria.
“We have been grappling with the high cost of construction in our housing scheme, so we are willing to partner with professionals who can provide practical and cost-effective solutions,” he said.
