Senator Adetokunbo Abiru
LAGOS, Nigeria – The newly commissioned Epe mini-grid and its planned 5-megawatt expansion are expected to stimulate economic growth, create jobs and provide reliable electricity for thousands of businesses across Lagos East Senatorial District, Senator Adetokunbo Abiru says.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the lawmaker says the project will provide stable electricity to agro-processors, fish merchants, artisans, schools, healthcare facilities and small and medium-sized enterprises, reducing dependence on expensive alternative energy sources.
Represented at the commissioning by former Lagos State House of Assembly Chief Whip Abdulateef Abiru, the senator describes the project as a catalyst for enterprise development, improved livelihoods and inclusive economic growth.
“This project did not happen by accident. It is the result of years of persistent engagement, advocacy and collaboration. Since the initiative commenced over four years ago, we remained committed to ensuring its successful delivery because we understood the transformative impact reliable electricity will have on our people and local economy,” Abiru says.
According to the senator, the Epe mini grid represents the first phase of a broader rural electrification programme that will culminate in a planned 5MW expansion, significantly increasing electricity supply across the Epe Division.
He says the larger project will support expanding commercial activities, improve productivity and attract new investments into agriculture, fisheries, manufacturing and other sectors that depend on reliable electricity.
“What we are witnessing now is a practical demonstration of how national policies can translate into real benefits for ordinary citizens. President Tinubu’s reforms are empowering institutions and creating opportunities for communities to access critical infrastructure that supports economic growth and development.”
