ABUJA, Nigeria – Police in Edo State rescue a 70-year-old farmer abducted by kidnappers demanding a ₦30 million ransom, thwarting the plot after a rapid joint security operation.
The victim, Pa Jonah Owobu, is abducted while returning from his farm in Uromi, triggering a distress call from his family.
Security operatives, working with local hunters and vigilantes, trace the kidnappers’ route after recovering the victim’s abandoned motorcycle.
“The suspects fled on sighting the advancing team,” police say.
The search leads to a forest hideout where the abductors abandon the victim and escape.
“He was rescued unhurt and reunited with his family,” says police spokesperson Eno Ikoedem.
Commissioner of Police Monday Agbonika says operations are ongoing to apprehend fleeing suspects.
The incident underscores persistent kidnapping threats in rural communities, even as authorities intensify crackdowns.
Police urge residents to provide timely intelligence to support security efforts.
