Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru
ABAKALIKI, Nigeria – The Ebonyi State Government has rejected allegations of awarding contracts based on political patronage, insisting that procurement follows strict due process.
Commissioner for Information Ikeuwa Omebe says all contracts are handled through the state’s Bureau for Public Procurement to ensure transparency.
“Contracts are awarded strictly on merit, not political influence,” he says.
The government also warns contractors against poor performance, revealing that several road projects have been terminated due to abandonment or substandard work.
Monitoring committees are deployed to assess project execution and verify payment documentation before funds are released.
Officials confirm that the State Executive Council recently reviewed ongoing projects and approved the cancellation of non-performing contracts.
The administration reiterates its commitment to completing key infrastructure projects that benefit residents.
Authorities also approved N1.3 billion for air-conditioning installation at the Ebonyi State Trade Centre.
The government maintains that accountability and quality delivery remain central to its development agenda.
