DELTA, Nigeria – A 27-year-old woman in Delta State, Ombe Egbaseimokumo, has received ₦5 million in financial support for hip replacement surgery after her case was brought to the attention of the wife of the Delta State Governor, Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori.
The intervention came during the second phase of the You Matter Charity Foundation (YMCF) free medical outreach held on Friday in Kiagbodo, Burutu Local Government Area.
The outreach, which targeted riverine communities in Burutu Federal Constituency, provided free medical consultations, health screenings, medications and other humanitarian support to residents.
Egbaseimokumo had appealed for assistance to undergo the surgery. Responding to her request, Oborevwori approved ₦5 million towards the procedure.
The gesture formed part of the Foundation’s broader intervention for vulnerable residents, particularly persons living with disabilities and those requiring critical medical care.
The outreach also provided assistance to children living with autism and other special needs, their caregivers, elderly persons and hundreds of residents in the riverine community.
As part of the programme, the Foundation donated 21 wheelchairs to people living with mobility challenges. About 90 per cent of the wheelchairs went to adults, while children received the remaining 10 per cent.
Children with autism and other developmental conditions were also provided with physiotherapy toys and assistive educational devices to support their learning and rehabilitation.
The Foundation distributed 120 bags of rice to vulnerable households in the community as part of the humanitarian component of the outreach.
The intervention highlights the challenges faced by residents of underserved riverine communities, where access to healthcare and specialist services can be difficult.
