BAUCHI. Nigeria – The Bauchi State Government disburses N485 million to 12,133 adolescent girls under the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) project to boost school enrolment and retention.
The Project Coordinator, Hajiya Ladi Mohammed, disclosed this on Tuesday in Bauchi, outlining the financial support structure and progress of the programme. “We have created accounts for all 12,133 beneficiaries. Each girl receives N40,000 covering registration and transition fees,” Mohammed says.
She explains that N15,000 is allocated for registration, while N25,000 supports school transition, adding that beneficiaries with at least 75 per cent first-term attendance will receive an additional N10,000 incentive.
Mohammed says ATM and identification cards have been issued to about 80 per cent of beneficiaries, ensuring transparency and direct access to funds.
Under the AGILE Small and Medium Grant, the project plans to renovate 833 schools statewide. Phase one sees 252 schools rehabilitated, while 256 schools are validated for phase two.
Meanwhile, Governor Bala Mohammed approves N793.6 million to cover external examination fees for 25,410 indigent students.
According to the Ministry of Education, the funds will pay for NECO, JAMB, NABTEB and NBAIS examinations.
Officials say additional interventions include boreholes, open wells and sanitation facilities under the Better Education Service Delivery for All project, aimed at improving school attendance, particularly among girls.
