BAUCHI, Nigeria – The Bauchi State Government approves a 100 per cent salary increase for doctors and other healthcare workers, marking one of the most significant welfare interventions in the state’s health sector.
Health Commissioner Dr Muhammad Sani Dambam announces the decision on Sunday after the State Executive Council meeting at the Government House, Bauchi. He says the approval follows recommendations by a committee set up to assess the financial impact of a revised scheme of service.
The overhaul aims to improve staff welfare; curb medical brain drains and strengthen healthcare delivery. “This is one of the most far-reaching welfare packages ever approved for the health sector in Bauchi State,” Dambam says.
The package includes peculiar allowances, such as outside-posting incentives, to encourage service in rural and underserved areas. Healthcare workers under the State Primary Healthcare Development Board also benefit, ending long-standing disparities.
The council further approves the clearance of promotion arrears, with more than 2,000 health workers expected to benefit, alongside access to car and housing loans. “These measures reduce financial pressure and improve job satisfaction,” Dambam adds.
The government says the reforms underline its commitment to prioritising healthcare workers as a foundation for improved health outcomes across Bauchi State.
