BIRNIN KEBBI, Nigeria – The Kebbi State Police Command says the explosion at the General Hospital, Bagudo, is accidental and not linked to terrorism or any security breach.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman Anisma, says investigations confirm that the incident, which occurred on December 30, 2025, results from overheated electrical appliances within the hospital.
According to the police, the inferno is triggered by excessive heat affecting air-conditioning units and refrigerator gas cylinders at the hospital facility. “Our investigation establishes that the explosion is accidental and caused by excessive heat on gas cylinders in electrical appliances,” Anisma says.
He dismisses widespread rumours circulating on social media, stressing that there is no bomb explosion, helicopter involvement or casualty recorded during the incident.
The conclusion follows a joint investigation conducted by the police, Explosive Ordnance Disposal–Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) experts and the Commissioner of Police Tactical Team.
The police spokesperson urges residents and media organisations to rely on verified information from official sources, warning that misinformation could trigger unnecessary panic.
“The Kebbi State Police Command remains committed to protecting lives and property and will continue to provide credible updates,” the statement adds.
